About That Global Warming Thing…

January 15, 2009 By: Thor Category: Science, Weather No Comments →

Nevermind.

At least that is what it seems like around here lately.  So, common sense observations appear to be backed up by scientific fact.

The earth is now on the brink of entering another Ice Age, according to a large and compelling body of evidence from within the field of climate science. Many sources of data which provide our knowledge base of long-term climate change indicate that the warm, twelve thousand year-long Holocene period will rather soon be coming to an end, and then the earth will return to Ice Age conditions for the next 100,000 years.

——————————————————————————————————–

The AGW theory is based on data that is drawn from a ridiculously narrow span of time and it demonstrates a wanton disregard for the ‘big picture’ of long-term climate change. The data from paleoclimatology, including ice cores, sea sediments, geology, paleobotany and zoology, indicate that we are on the verge of entering another Ice Age, and the data also shows that severe and lasting climate change can occur within only a few years. While concern over the dubious threat of Anthropogenic Global Warming continues to distract the attention of people throughout the world, the very real threat of the approaching and inevitable Ice Age, which will render large parts of the Northern Hemisphere uninhabitable, is being foolishly ignored.

Yeah it looks like increased CO2 levels are normal, and lag the climate change by about 800 years.  Who would have thought to look at the big picture.  Now, where did I put that Ice Axe and those Crampons, I might need them.

Murder Rates Correlate to Gun Laws

January 13, 2009 By: Thor Category: Gun Control No Comments →

Did you know that you can draw a direct correlation between murder rates and gun laws?  This should come as no surprise to anyone.  This is kind of old news, and has been reported in many other places.   Let’s take a look at the example of North Dakota

Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem says North Dakota has had only two murders so far this year. He says that’s the lowest yearly number for the state in at least 30 years.

Stenehjem says North Dakota averages about 11 homicides annually for the past several years, after a high of 22 in 1993. 16 were reported last year.

TWO.  Oh, and the method of used was stabbing.

Where guns are allowed, with little restrictions, one will see lower rates of violent death.

Google Search – Environmental Impact?

January 12, 2009 By: Thor Category: Culture, Energy No Comments →

We all know that there are a lot of grants out there that are a bit unusual.  This bit of research says to me that:

a.)  Someone has too much time on their hands.

b.)  Someone else has too much time on their hands, in that they probably lobbied for, and developed the grant that resulted in this research.

Performing two Google searches from a desktop computer can generate about the same amount of carbon dioxide as boiling a kettle for a cup of tea, according to new research.

While millions of people tap into Google without considering the environment, a typical search generates about 7g of CO2 Boiling a kettle generates about 15g. “Google operates huge data centres around the world that consume a great deal of power,” said Alex Wissner-Gross, a Harvard University physicist whose research on the environmental impact of computing is due out soon. “A Google search has a definite environmental impact.”

So the next time you initiate that google search… think about it, do you need to have that large a carbon footprint??   Incredible.

Fairness

Having young children, I hear “It’s not fair” and awful lot.

Recently, we have heard a lot about proportional responses equating to “fairness”.

I agree with the following sentiments.
