Culture Clash

Now you tell me. Which culture would you rather be a part of?

Better Off

October 02, 2008 By: Thor Category: Presidential Politics No Comments →

This “Better Off” theme sounds familiar.  I think I might heard it in every presidential cycle since 1980.  In any case it always seems to get played and it is a valuable tool for you to base your voting decision on.  So, think about it.

Then think about this:

“From which of these guys would you buy a used car?”
As my grandfather would explain, honesty and character are truly the only things one can count on in a candidate.  Once a man is in office, everything else — promises, platforms, programs — can be left at the polling-place door.  But character and integrity are indispensable, not easily shed behind even the grandest closed doors.

Twisting Your Perspective

October 02, 2008 By: Thor Category: Culture, Humor, Politics No Comments →

I ran across the following in my perusal of other sites this morning.  It always amazes how people can take a phrase and twist it to find the another perspective of the same fact.

I’m voting Democrat because I believe the Government will do a better job of spending the money I earn than I would.

I’m voting Democrat because freedom of speech is fine as long as nobody is offended by it.

I’m voting Democrat because when we pull out of Iraq I trust that the bad guys will stop what they’re doing because they now think we’re good people.

I’m voting Democrat because I believe that people who can’t tell us if it will rain on Friday CAN tell us that the polar ice caps will melt away in ten years if I don’t start driving a Prius.

I’m voting Democrat because I’m not concerned about the slaughter of millions of babies so long as we keep all death row inmates alive.

I’m voting Democrat because I believe that business should not be allowed to make profits for themselves. They need to break even and give the rest away to the government for redistribution as THEY see fit.

I’m voting Democrat because I believe liberal judges need to rewrite the Constitution every few days to suit some fringe kooks who would NEVER get their agendas past the voters.

I’m voting Democrat because I believe that open borders and government give-aways to foreigners is a great way to grow a nation.

I’m voting Democrat because I’m way too irresponsible to own a gun, and I know that my local police are all I need to protect me from murderers and thieves.

I’m voting Democrat because I love the fact that I can now marry whatever I want. I’ve decided to marry my horse.

I’m voting Democrat because I believe oil companies’ profits of 4% on a gallon of gas are obscene but the government taxing the same gallon of gas at 15% isn’t.

I’m voting Democrat because my head is so firmly planted up my ass it’s unlikely that I’ll ever have another point of view.

Well for all you democrats… is this accurate?

Thursday Politics: Patriotic Act

This one is a little over the top from a presentation standpoint, but it again illustrates how effectively the campaign is taking comments by the other ticket and highlighting a negative (in my opinion) position.

Evil

Many years ago I read a book by Mercedes Lackey that got me thinking.  Being young and immortal at the time (at least in my own mind) I had never really given it any thought.  In any case it was one of those “fantasy / reality” stories featuring elves in modern settings and it was explaining a myth that holds about elves that they would kidnap children and leave a changeling in their place.  It went on to explain the elves held children precious above all else, and they did indeed remove children from abusive environments where ever they found them, and raised them in safer environments.

Since becoming a father, and working with kids both mine and others I fully agree with the sentiment that there is nothing so precious as a child.

Well someone has been compiling stats recently and pulled this one together.

From AKI

Baghdad, 1 Oct. (AKI) – Al-Qaeda has over the past two years used 24 children to carry out suicide bombings in Iraq, the director of military operations for the Interior Ministry, Abdelaziz Mohammed Jasim, told pan-Arab daily al-Sharq al-Awsat.

“Of the 24 children, five had a mental disability. From analysing the others’ remains, we established that they were homeless,” said Jasim.

American soldiers stationed in Iraq have reported that the insurgency has armed children as young as 11 to fight against them.

Al-Qaeda is targeting orphans, street children and mentally disabled children as suicide bomber recruits as well as women, according to the Iraqi Interior Ministry.

There have been at least 16 suicide attacks carried out by women in recent months in the volatile Al-Qaeda stronghold of Diyala province, north of the Iraqi capital, Baghdad.

Iraqi children (photo) in general make up 20 percent of the civilian victims of bomb attacks in the country.

Evil.  Pure evil.
