Operation Redwing

I was going to take my time putting together a well thought out post on this topic.  But over at Blackfive they reminded me that today is the 3 year anniversary of this Operation.  While I was on vacation, dodging the crowds and towing little girls around Disney World I had a couple of hours of downtime every night that I was able to use working my way through Marcus Lutrell’s book Lone Survivor.  If you have not read this book you need to.  Regardless of your politics, or thoughts about conflict you need to read and understand the base values that Marcus is able to convey through this story.  These values are what drive the people that have defended this nation, and our way of life for over 230 years.

I cannot summarize the book, or what the meaning of this day is to so many.  Go here to get an idea of the importance of this anniversary.

SCOTUS – Understanding The Constitution

Hmmm… It is assumed that those that are members of the Supreme Court of the United States understand what is written in The Constitution. It is a fairly short document, it seems to be pretty clearly written (as opposed to many of our laws). Over at Chuck Z’s, he has one of those posts that make you wonder about the understanding that some of the Supremes actually have. Go read the whole post here.

To give you a little bit of a taste for it….

Justice Stephen Breyer wrote a separate dissent in which he said, “In my view, there simply is no untouchable constitutional right guaranteed by the Second Amendment to keep loaded handguns in the house in crime-ridden urban areas.” [emphasis added]

Ahem:

Ninth Amendment – Protection of rights not specifically enumerated in the Bill of Rights.”

The enumeration in the Constitution, of certain rights, shall not be construed to deny or disparage others retained by the people.

Tenth Amendment – Powers of states and people.

The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the states, are reserved to the states respectively, or to the people.”

Go read the whole thing it only gets better. If this is the way that Breyer really thinks, then as a nation we are in a world of hurt.
